Fresh Chicken!

by Embrace Country Life on 06/09/12

I have to admit when the discount cards arrived last week, our whole family was excited!  We have several different groups selling them for fundraisers.  We have also been selling them from the website and the people buying them are excited as well!  If you haven't checked them out, please do!  They cost $10 with $5 going to charity.  This month's charity on the website is the American Cancer Society.  You will easily recover your $10 using the card a few times.  Many places like the two, big health stores in the area and The Whole in the Wall restaurant let you use the card for 10% off every time you visit!

This summer, the girls and I plan to visit as many farms and farm-related businesses.  We have several families who want to join us on our "Embrace Country Life" tour.  I know the kids will have a ball and I plan to learn a lot about eating healthier.

The highlight of our week was when Joe Wickman from Hill Haven Farm visited us.  He came with a fresh chicken, processed hours earlier, ready for the oven!  Joe and his wife, Kelcy just started raising chickens at their farm.  The chicken that was delivered to us was from their first flock.  It was so nice of them to deliver one to us!

We had so many different activities this week:  Julia's recorder concert, Sarah's chorus concert, Alicia's soccer game, and a literacy night at one of my schools~we couldn't eat the chicken until last night.  FRESH chicken, mashed potatoes, and fresh carrots.  It was a delicious dinner!!
